Toubab Krewe is an insanely versatile rock and world-beat group from Ashville, NC. They are all top-notch rock musicians, and they have all traveled extensively in West Africa and mastered djembe, dunun, kora, n’goni, and many other instruments of that region.
Toubab Krewe plays at The Tractor in Ballard Sept. 30. Tickets are only $10 and are available at TicketWeb.
They can rock out in a stadium or on a club stage. This video best represents the kind of shows they’ve done in the past here in Seattle.
I love this clip of them unplugged in a studio, giving you a glimpse of what it might be like to tour with them on their bus.
They can do Mali-style surf rock (yes, it’s a genre now, thanks to these guys), as in this video.
Or they can play like old-time southern musicians settin’ on the porch playing for each other and a small crowd.
Oh, yeah. They can also whip out kick-ass percussion jams with multiple wicked-tight breaks.
I have no idea which iteration you’ll see at the Tractor Sept 30, but, really, trust, me – don’t miss this show.
