Sorry for the late notice – I’ve been insanely busy lately – but I just learned on Facebook that Afro-funk Brazilian band SambaDa is at Nectar tonight. I’m listening to some sample music on their website right now, and it is indeed funky, and definitely Brazilan. It should be worth going just to see all of the usual-suspect samba dancers busting their moves.
This YouTube video alone might get me to rally after a long day of teaching and head down to Nectar:
And after looking at a few more videos, I’m definitely heading down to Nectar, if only to see if that shekere player – looks like they’ve got an excellently funk Afro-beat feel, and their hand drummers look pretty amazing, too.
Can’t believe I haven’t heard of these guys before. Hey, samba community, who else am I missing?
